I will be giving daily homework which will be due the next day, rather than homework on Monday, to be due on Friday. I decided to do this, because I would rather give a little bit of homework each day, rather than a lot all at once. So today, your student brought home a comprehension sheet and a math worksheet which will be due tomorrow. He/she will also be responsible to read 20 minutes tonight.
Every day your student brings back his/her completed homework, signed by a parent, will earn a fun buck (Cool Cash, to be used towards our malls). If your student brings back completed and signed homework every day of the week (Monday through Thursday), not only will they get $1 each day, but they will have the opportunity to play Homeworkopoly for additional prizes. Please encourage your child to stay on top of their homework and not fall behind. Fourth graders should be able to spend 40 minutes on homework each night, which includes 20 minutes of reading. I base this on the guidelines that students should be assigned 10 minutes of homework each night for each year of school. If your child is struggling and spends more than 40 minutes on homework, please let me know so I can adjust how much I am assigning to your child.
I sent home various papers, one explaining the Reading Road Rally. Please encourage your children to complete the requirements for the Road Rally, so they can participate in our Reading Road Rally activity on September 30. Only those who complete the requirements will be able to attend. Those who don't, will have to "suffer the consequences," and read during the fun activities.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me: karen.ensign@ccsdut.org. Emailing me is the best way to reach me. I check my emails quite often and will respond most quickly to emails.
Thanks for all that you do to support your child and make this year a successful fourth grade year!
